The apartment lights they are like stars in the sky
The closest replacement for stars that I can find
Some of them they stay up way too late
And I can see their friends dropping back as the hours rise

In their illusion of being the cosmic lifeblood, the lights do not cut through the dark
Nor do they weave their small bodies, intertwining with the darkness
they rest on the building they call home
whose frame blends into the night sky
When it is just aching past midnight
The frame is black, dark as the night
The lonely hours grow somber, the blue drips into the sky

Does it ever really get so blue?
Sometimes it does but its occasions are rare
When they do the peaceful moments ascend the world to a glimpse of perfect
Not meaning perfect in the sense of the divine or immaculate, or without fault or weakness
Not for cynicism or rough edges or great success or some shit like that

It's at this time that any concept of love
Can make itself apparent to you

That places in such a moment
All the other times of anguish which haunt you through the day, they are forgotten now
